UTQIAĠVIK, Alaska — The North Slope Borough School District, the Iñupiat Community of the Arctic Slope (ICAS), and the North Slope Borough jointly announce that, due to weather, the upcoming volleyball tournament in Point Hope has been canceled. The school district is working to schedule a replacement event.
The National Weather Service has forecast a powerful Bering Sea storm will bring high winds, coastal flooding and erosion that could impact the Point Hope runway and surrounding areas.
The safety of our students, athletes, families, and traveling staff is our top priority. The Borough, School District, and ICAS will continue to monitor the storm’s progression closely and coordinate with local officials and emergency management teams to ensure community safety.
Residents are strongly encouraged to take all necessary precautions to protect personal property and ensure safety. Please remove boats and trailers from the shoreline and secure any loose items.
